Announces IR Sensor-enabled Contactless“Air Touch”Button

- Enables pressing elevator buttons without contact... Completely prevents infection and pollution through touch
- Testing completed, the button is set to be released at the end of March… Can be applied to elevators already in use

Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-bong) has developed a contactless “Air Touch” button that uses infrared (IR) sensors to allow users to input floor numbers without actual contact. The testing phase has ended and the product will be available for installation starting at the end of this month.

Air Touch works by recognizing movement in front of the floor buttons (14-20 mm) with the sensors installed on the side. It comes in one bar and two bar variants, so a suitable type can be used depending on elevator type and building design. Furthermore, Air Touch was designed to be compatible with existing elevators, increasing versatility.

Existing contactless elevator button products use IR sensors on each button, which may lead to a faulty recognition problem when cleaning or when a visually impaired user touches the buttons to recognize them. Hyundai Elevator’s Air Touch uses a location recognition method to completely bypass such problems.

An official of Hyundai Elevator stated, “IR sensors recognize and process user finger movements, which means that it is possible to implement a completely new type of elevator button system that uses virtual buttons instead of physical ones.”
